Hello Nail Art Blog World!
After being heavily inspired by all of the amazing blogs out there where I learned a lot about nail polish, nail art and techniques, I decided to become a part of the pack and start my own. Somewhere (other than facebook or pinterest, which I find hard to navigate) to keep my growing collection of nail designs and write a little about them, my own little way to help people the way other great blogs has helped me. I am not going to set the bar too high, but I have a lot of free time these days and find myself applying nailpolish averaging twice a week, so why not share them? After a few requests from amazed friends, I've decided to have my own little space on the interwebs for my nails.
Just a little background: I have bitten my nails for my entire life. Around the end of April 2012, my little cousin put some nailpolish on my inch-long nails (they were shorter than anyones) and I didn't bite them for a couple days. I decided to turn that into a lifetime, and have grown them out in three months to lengths I never though possible. To distract myself from my most hard to break habit, I painted them: I scoured the internet for designs, bought some nail art tools, a bunch of new nailpolishes, and tried out different ideas on myself, my mom and friends. I'm still in the experimenting stages, but I've learned enough to be confident in my creations. And this is where I begin this nail art blog.
So on to the gradients!
Gradient Nails
Nailpolish Used: American Apparel Sheer, Pacific Beach - Gradient
Neon Yellow - Ring finger base
Essie, Bikini So Teeny - Thumb and Middle finger base
Sally Hansen Smooth + Perfect, Sea - Index and Pinky finger base
American Apparel Glitter, Constellation - Middle and Ring finger
Directions:
After hearing good things about the American Apparel polish, I was happy with the outcome, but the gradient didn't come out as drastic as I wanted to. Next time I will do them all more like the Index finger shown. I started a base coat of Nail Envy, and two coats of Sally Hansen in Sea (because it's very light, otherwise use one coat). Then I put a small stripe of American Apparel's Pacific Beach on the top of the nail. It's a very light, quick-drying formula that's easy to apply, and as a sheer 'jelly' is a perfect substitute for the other messy, hard versions of gradient nails. After the first layer has dried, i did another layer covering about half to three quarters of the nail, then finally painted the whole nail in a thin layer. The result is what you see above, specifically in the index finger. As AA polishes are 3 for 18$ in Canada, I also picked up one of their Glitters in Constellation, which have a good amount of long silver pieces. I finished with another layer of Pacific Beach over the glitter to reduce the shine a little, and Voila!
